Kate Belanger is a queer artist and photographer raised in rural Massachusetts, on the border of miles of forest. As a child, some of her strongest memories are of venturing into that place beyond her backyard, into worlds of her own mind and imagination. Her work portrays this love of exploration and fantasy, of escaping to somewhere beyond the mundane. Photography has taken Kate across most of the continental United States. She fostered her love of the medium through taking long road trips with her friends, shooting intuitively and spontaneously. Shooting on location requires adaptability and solving problems as they occur, and she thrives in that environment. By shooting outside the studio, she developed a love for natural light and using pure sunlight to create portraits. Kate is always searching for locations and always ready to shoot. She has curated a cinematic style, telling stories through human emotion that feel larger than life. Her work alludes to larger context, like they are a single still from a feature-length film.

Kate received her BFA in Advertising Photography from RIT and has worked as a freelance photographer since 2017.
